Why is Biodiversity important to us and why should be preserved?

Biodiversity is important to us in various aspects:
  • Biodiversity provides "Our Living Bank Balance"
  • Biodiversity is important because of its economic significance
  • Biodiversity is an important part of sustainable development
  • Biodiversity is important as a provider of natural services
  • Biodiversity is important as a source of natural products
  • Biodiversity is an important part of our cultural heritage

It needs to be preserved because we need biodiversity to sustain our life, our lives and our universe depends on biodiversity:

Biodiversity is a necessity. Although we may not readily appreciate it, biodiversity provides us with many of the things that sustain our lives. Plants, animals and micro-organisms supply humans with a multitude of free ecological services, such as generating soil, controlling pests, balancing atmospheric gasses and many other biological processes. These processes are vital to our existence, and for the health of the planet. For this reason it is essential for our well-being that we protect biodiversity - the variations in species, their lives and their habitats - because biodiversity is necessary for sustaining life and our standard of living.

What is Biodiversity?

Biodiversity is the degree of variation of life forms within a given ecosystem, biome, or an entire planet. Biodiversity is a measure of the health of ecosystems. Greater biodiversity implies greater health. Biodiversity is in part a function of climate. In terrestrial habitats, tropical regions are typically rich whereas polar regions support fewer species.

What factors reduce Biodiversity?

1. Destruction of Habitats.
2. Uncontrolled Hunting and Fishing
3. Pollution of the water, soil, and the atmosphere.
4. Introduction of Exotic Species

What is an NGO?

As the dicctionary says, an NGO is any non-profit, voluntary citizens' group which is organized on a local, national or international level. In this case for the protection of extinguished species.

Welcome to PawLife Society NGO! This blog is focused in the protection of endangered animals. This is part of our Natural Science School Proyect. We will show you different animals included in this cathegory.

In each Animal Fact File we will include the category to this Animal belong. For example:
We classify the Animal's status according to the "IUCN Red List" criteria.

We're sure you will have fun reading this Blog. We hope you like it. Enjoy!
